Mother died after fire razed in Delta Compound

A mother was declared dead on arrival after suffering third degree burns when a fire razed a community in Love Road, Delta Compound early this morning.


The fire affected 70 houses and 70 families. According to Deputy Fire Marshal Jose Waling of Bureau of Fire Protection Manila, the fire started in a shanty house of a family with 3 children when the father left a lit candle unattended due to the power shortage in the compound. It was their neighbor who alerted the nearby houses about the fire.

The firefighters received a call at 1:16 am and they were on the scene by 1:25 am. It took the firefighters about 4 hours and 20 minutes to extinguish the flames, which reached alerted level Task Force Bravo.

All of the victims were brought to La Loma Hospital. The 3 children are in critical condition with first to second degree burns. And the 2 fire volunteers are being treated for smoke inhalation and those other victims are being treated for sustained minor injuries.

The father was shocked. He was crying while saying the names of his wife and children.
